Trenton Tigers: 2013 football preview

Trenton High School enters its second season of varsity football following an absence from the sport. Last year’s obligatory rebuilding campaign was a predictably rough one, with the Tigers managing a single non-district win against nine losses.

Opponents outscored Trenton 383-30. The Tigers were shut out in eight games.

Coach Jeremy Strickland has reason to expect better results this season. Trenton lost only six lettermen to graduation.

On offense, running backs Anthony Johnson and Josh Tanguma should get most of the touches in a run-oriented attack. Sophomore quarterback Keaver Wylie won’t have to carry the offense on his own. Chase Haden leads an O-line that must help the Tigers avoid long-yardage situations.

The Trenton defense needs to improve its average of over 38 points allowed per game. Linebacker Patrick Cook heads a unit that will rely heavily on two veteran defensive ends – Garrett Puryear and Kylie Wylie.
