Trial to begin Monday in area manslauter case

By Scott Harvey

Royse City – The trial of a Royse City man, charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with last year's death of a country singer, is expected to begin today.

The Greenville Herald Banner reports Chaddrick Hunter had been scheduled to go to trial on Aug. 18. He has pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter count and to a charge of failure to stop and render aid involving the March, 2007 death of Buck Jones, of Nashville, Tenn. Jury selection is scheduled for 9 a.m.

Authorities claim Hunter had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his bloodstream at the time of the accident after failing a breathalyzer.

Jones was struck from behind as he walked along the northbound service road of eastbound Interstate 30.

Hunter allegedly told a DPS officer that he was coming home from a Dallas club and attempted to swerve and miss Jones, but was unable to do so. Hunter was said to have to continued to his parent's house and then returned.
