Trial for Royse City man delayed

By Brad Kellar

Royse City – Trial has been postponed for a Royse City-area man, charged in a 2007 shootout with law enforcement officers.

Jury selection was set for Monday for Johnny Joe Webb, who has pleaded not guilty to seven counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant.

Both the prosecution and defense indicated they were ready to proceed and prosecutors had issued approximately 40 subpoenas for witnesses to testify in the trial.

The case is now set for a review of mental health on April 6.

The indictments allege Webb fired on two Royse City Police Department officers, as well as five sheriff's deputies on Nov. 11, 2007.
