Trial of slain A&M-Commerce student to begin

Daingerfield – After months of delays, officials in Morris County are scheduled to begin a murder trial this week in the case of a slain Texas A&M University-Commerce student.

23-year-old Lester Jackson, of Pittsburg, is alleged to have shot and killed 20-year-old Christopher Rashad Moore outside Katdaddy's Club near Daingerfield on April 12. Jackson is also charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

In December, a judge delayed the start of the trial after Jackson's lawyer was involved in a motorcycle accident. The postponement came months after the case was already granted a continuance.

A native of De Soto, Moore was an accounting major at A&M-Commerce.

Jury selection in the case is scheduled for Tuesday, with the start of testimony set for Wednesday.

If convicted, Jackson would faces a maximum sentence of from five to 99 years to life in prison.
