Delta County – Trial is about to begin in a Delta County capitol murder case. A jury was chosen Monday in the trial of Ricky Lynn Barnett, of Wolfe City, charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting death of his estranged wife in June of last year. Testimony in the case is scheduled to begin next Monday, Dec. 8. Authorities claim Barnett has admitted to killing Cynthia Ann Barnett, a mother of five children, inside her Cooper home. Should he be convicted of capital murder, he will automatically receive a sentence of life in prison without parole. The killing is believed to have been the first murder in Delta County in more than a decade.
