Tuesday fire destroys Greenville home

Greenville – At approximately 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Greenville Fire-Rescue responded to a house fire at 3003 Washington Street. Upon arrival the upstairs area of the two-story house was heavily involved in fire. An interior attack was attempted but conditions worsened and the ladder truck was used to extinguish the blaze.

Three occupants were in the home at the time the fire broke out, with all getting out safely prior to the arrival of the fire department. One occupant was assisted by another occupant getting out of the home through an upstairs window. The occupant needing assistance received lacerations that required medical attention and was transported to Hunt Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Red Cross responded, assisting the occupants with clothing and temporary shelter at a local hotel.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. The Fire Marshal was called in and the incident is under investigation.
