Tuesday rain does little to combat drought

By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – This week's rain did little to help get rid of the drought.

In addition to the severe weather, many areas throughout Northeast Texas received a brief drenching Tuesday night. But the precipitation was not even close to what was needed to relieve the current drought conditions.

In fact, only thirteen hundredths of an inch of rain was officially recorded at Major's Field Municipal Airport in Greenville Tuesday; none of which was attributed to that night's thunderstorm, and was not enough to relieve the City's voluntary water restriction.

Hunt County also remains under a ban on outdoor burning. A total of 197 Texas counties are currently under a burn ban; including Delta, Fannin, Kaufman, Lamar, Rains and Rockwall counties.
