Commerce – The unemployment rate for Hunt County is down a full percentage point from this time last year. The latest reports form the Texas Workforce Commission list the county's unemployment rate at 5.5 percent. That's down from last June's 6.5 percent but up from last month's 5.3 percent.
Over 1,200 jobs have been created locally during the past year, with 430 new jobs created by Hunt County businesses between May and June. The statewide unemployment rate was listed at 5.1 percent for June, which is down from 5.5 percent in May.
