Unemployment up, jobs up in Hunt County

Hunt County – Hunt County has seen many new jobs created but unemployment is still up over this time last year. Despite hundreds of new positions being created, Hunt County still posted a 5.9% unemployment rate for June. That was up from 5.2% in May and 5.7% in June of last year.

More people were employed last month than at any other time in recent memory, however. The 38,552 people employed are the highest since January 2000. There were 253 more jobs than in May and nearly 1,500 more jobs than in June of last year.

Fannin and Lamar counties posted some of the highest unemployment rates in the region, with 6.2 and 6.3% respectively. Collin and Rockwall counties came in with the lowest rates, both at 4.3%.
