University announces hire of newest deans

Commerce – Texas A&M University-Commerce has announced the appointment of their newest deans following searches on a national scale.

The university elected to stay in house by choosing Dr. Salvatore Attardo as the Dean of College and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts (CHSSA).

Formerly the interim dean, Dr. Attardo has served as the Department Head and Professor in the Department of Literature and Languages since 2007. He was previously an English professor at Youngstown State University.

Dr. Attardo earned his Ph.D. degree in Linguistic/English from Purdue University as well as a Doctorate in French Language and Literatures/Linguistics (Summa cum laude) from Catholic University of Milan, Italy.

Dr. Grady Price Blount comes to Commerce from A&M Corpus Christi, where he'll serve as Dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Agriculture. His previous position was as the Assistant Vice President for Research and Associate Graduate Dean.

Dr. Blount earned his Ph. D. degree in Planetary Geology from Arizona State University, a Master of Science in Geology from Sul Ross State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Corpus Christi State University. Dr. Blount also participated in the Management Development Program at Harvard University.

The appointments for both men become effective September 1.
