Update on the new A.C. Williams Elementary School

The new superintendent of the Commerce school district, in addition to preparing for a new school year, is also keeping tabs on the new elementary school approved by voters earlier this summer. Click the mp3 icon to hear comments from Mike Roberts.

The new superintendent of the Commerce schools, Mike Roberts, presented an update on the new A. C. Williams Elementary School Wednesday, August 1st, to members of the Commerce Rotary Club. Architects are gunning for completion by Christmas of next year. Roberts said it would be great for completion in the spring of 2009 so the move can be made for the start of the 09-2010 school year.

Below is the layout of the new A. C. Williams Elementary School. The blue rows are classrooms, in a design that allows the addition of new classrooms. CISD owns the land to build as determined by future growth. The gym, media center, and combination cafeteria/auditorium (cafetorium) are lavender, offices are in orange, and hallways are in yellow.

Below is the location of the new A. C. Williams Elementary School, across Culver from Commerce Middle School. The new 3rd through 5th grade building would have two parking lots, one along Culver for parents and visitors and another east of the building, paving the existing gravel drive, that would accommodate for teachers and staff. Commerce Elementary School is in the upper right of the picture and at the bottom are Commerce Middle School and the CISD administration building.

New CISD Superintendent Mike Roberts will be asking the city council to ask the Texas Department of Transportation to reduce the speed limit on Culver to 30 miles per hour fulltime and 15 miles per hour when schools are going to and from school.
