The interest in the Sulphur River Eastern Turkey Cooperative has grown according to Steve Favre of Riverview Farms in Lake Creek, Texas, who is spearheading the project.

“The project has been received well by the community in both Delta and Lamar Counties,” reports Steve Favre. “The cooperative has grown from 15,000 acres before to over 22,000 acres and still growing today.”

He along with the Texas Parks and Wildlife are asking to meet with all current and future cooperative members on Monday, February, 16 at noon in the Delta County Civic Center in Cooper.

“The purpose of the meeting is to create a rough map of the land participating in the turkey restocking effort and for TPWD to explain the process they will go through to complete this project,” said Favre, noting their use of software. Jason Hardin from TPWD will be giving an update on their restoration efforts. They will be providing a free chicken and sausage gumbo lunch.

This cooperative is aimed at owners and operators of acreage near the North Sulphur River between Sulphur Bluff and State Highways 19 and 24 at Lake Creek to stock Eastern Turkeys.

TPWD is focusing their efforts on Sulphur River, White Oak Creek and Cypress Creek watersheds within Bowie, Camp, Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Morris, Red River, Titus and Upshur Counties. The sites must consist of a minimum of 10,000 acres of contiguous usable habitat in hopes to create sustainable populations.

Favre can be reached at 214-415-0989 or by e-mail at favresc@gmail.com.
