Vandalism, possible arson at Paris school
An apparent case of vandalism and possible arson made for a chaotic first day of school at Paris Alternative School, formerly known as Travis Junior High School.
The Paris News reports that school staff arrived around 6 a.m. this morning and discovered evidence of vandalism , including furniture piled in a hallway and smoke inside the building.
“We’re investigating today, and treating it as arson,” said Paris fire chief Larry Wright.
Classes were held in a gymnasium today. School officials hope to hold classes in the usual classrooms on Tuesday, Paris Independent School District public information officer Jeanne Kraft said.
Fourteen firemen from all Paris fire stations responded to the call Monday morning, Wright said.
