Voices from Marvin Nichols public process: One opponent

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Louisiana Black Bear

The testimonials have been given and now the waiting begins. The Texas Water Development Board’s public commentary period on the Marvin Nichols Reservoir proposal ended May 2.

Last week, the agency hosted two public forums on the project, one in Mount Pleasant on Apr. 29, and one in Arlington on Apr. 30. There’s no set timeline for the water board to issue a decision on the project. It could come today or it could come months from now.

On today’s program and next week’s, we’re going to do something a little different, and turn the mike over to some of the speakers recorded at the public meeting in Mount Pleasant.

Today we’ll hear an opponent of the project – Jim Eidson of Celeste, who’s part of the Northeast Texas planning group for the Texas Water Development Board (Group D). In his comments, Eidson mentions, among other concerns, the possibility of the Louisiana Black Bear being present in the proposed reservoir site.

Next week, we'll hear from supporters of the project.

Mark Haslett has served at KETR since 2013. Since then, the station's news operation has enjoyed an increase in listener engagement and audience metrics, as well recognition in the Texas AP Broadcasters awards.
