Volunteers needed Thu.-Sat. in Greenville

hcsmfish.org

Officials with Hunt County Shared Ministries (FISH) are putting out an urgent call for volunteers, to assist the agency tonight with packing boxes of food for distribution to those who signed up with the agency.

Shipments of most of the food items to be placed in the boxes, including canned goods, had not arrived at the agency as of Wednesday, but are expected to be delivered this afternoon, which means all of the work which could not be completed during the first two nights of packing on Tuesday and Wednesday will need to be made up tonight, starting at 5:30 p.m. on the back dock of the GEUS David McCalla building, 2810 Wesley Street in Greenville.

Volunteers will also be needed at 1 p.m. Friday to help move the boxes from the FISH headquarters, 2805 King Street, to Aldersgate Church, 5500 Sayle Street in Greenville.

Help is also requested, starting at 6 a.m. Saturday, at Daybreak Produce, 1661 Interstate 30 Frontage Road (just east of the intersection of Interstate 30 and FM 1570) in Greenville,  with the loading of the turkeys and produce for the distribution sites. Volunteers must be able to life 50 pounds or more.

Volunteers are also needed for the distributions, which will take place in Greenville, between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at Aldersgate Church; in Caddo Mills at the former New Life Church building, 3101 State Highway 66;  at the First United Methodist Church in Commerce, 1709 State Highway 50; in Quinlan at the First United Methodist Church, 1555 East Quinlan Parkway; and in Wolfe City at the volunteer fire department, 102 South Santa Fe Street.

Applicants will need to bring their confirmation card on the day of the event. A separate confirmation card will be mailed for Christmas. No photocopies of confirmation cards or photo ID will be accepted.

There will be no other dates made available for Thanksgiving pickup, although applicants may list one other person who lives at their address to pick up their basket.

Those wanting additional information can contact FISH Executive Director Wally Jeffers at 903-455-0545 or wjeffers@hcsmfish.org.
