Walker adds duo to men’s basketball team for 2015-16

A&M-Commerce head men's basketball coach Sam Walker announced the signing of Issac Asrat and Onaye Sims to his 2015-16 Lion roster.

Asrat is a 6'1", 165lbs point guard/shooting guard from Dallas, Texas and Plano East High School where he lettered for two seasons under head coach Jeff Clarkson.  He averaged 16.4 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game and 1.1 assists per game his junior season before upping his totals to 20.7 ppg, rebounds per game and two assists per game.   His best game came against Flower Mound when he scored the game-winning basket to cap off a 34-point night.  He was named Region 10-5A Offensive Player of the Year following his junior year as well as a adding in all-region and all-district honors to his ledger.  Following his senior year, he added All-Region 1-6A honors, as well as, all-district honors.  He was named an academic all-state selection for his performance on the court and in the classroom.  He finished his Plano East career as the school's second leading scorer all-time.

Sims is a 6'5", 215lbs forward from Irving, Texas and MacArthur High School where he letter for two seasons under head coach Stephen Hamrick. Following his time at MacArthur, Sims spent time at Seminole State College and Northlake College before transferring to A&M-Commerce. Sims is the older brother to former Baylor women's basketball standout Odyssey Sims.

Walker led the Lions to a 24-8 season and a 9-5 record in the Lone Star Conference. It was the program's 15th 20-win season.  The Lions also stormed through the LSC Championship notching the program's fourth LSC tournament title and made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
