Warrant round-up continues

By Kevin Jefferies

Greenville – Authorities continued a warrant round-up last week in Greenville. The latest round of arrests was a continuation of a round-up that began in late June. The Greenville Police, the Hunt County Sheriff, the Hunt County Environmental Enforcement, and the Constable for Precinct 1 had taken several people into custody by noon last Friday. The focus for last week's round-up was Greenville, but Constable Randy Meeks said more sweeps are planned in the near future for Commerce and other locations in the county.

Hunt County Warrant Officer Joe Knight said the round-ups weren't about putting people in jail, but sending the message that courts in Hunt County deserved respect and fines should be paid when they are assessed.

The Office of Warrant Assistance has collected nearly a half-million dollars since it began in 2003.
