Water grant funds distributed in area

By Kevin Jefferies

Northeast Texas – Wolfe City, Josephine, and Van Zandt County will all be receiving grant money for various water projects. The funds are part of $2.67 million awarded by the Office of Rural Development and Affairs, or ORCA. Funding for all the projects allows for administration and technical assistance, but local volunteers will provide the labor.

Wolfe City will be receiving $350,000 to increases water storage capacity for the city. The project will increase storage in East and West Lakes by nearly 18 million gallons.

Josephine will also receive $350,000 for installation of water lines and infrastructure to alleviate the extreme loss of water due to strain on the system caused by the drought.

Van Zandt County will receive $194,000 to run water lines to a previously unserved part of the county.
