Weather spotters to receive training locally

PARIS - The annual SKYWARN storm spotter training class returns to Northeast Texas for 2012 with a stop this evening in Lamar County.

SKYWARN is a volunteer program with roughly 300,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service Office in Fort Worth will conduct training seminars in each county over three months span as we enter the severe weather season. Monday's meeting in Paris will take place from 7-9 p.m. from Aiken Elementary School. Next week the class comes to Fannin County. Learn more on SKYWARN here
