Weekend fire at contaminated Greenville plant

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A fire heavily damages the remains of a contaminated plant in Greenville. Hay bales and tires inside the former ESCO manufacturing plant in the Ardis Heights area ignited and did damage to the interior Saturday. The Greenville Fire Department was on the scene for at least six hours attempting to put out the final hot spots. The cause is under investigation. Plans have been in place to perform a clean-up of contaminated soil near the building, with additional funding being sought to demolish the building itself in the future.
