Parts of West Texas lost phone service for most of Monday after a fiber-optic cord was severed.
According to AT&T spokeswoman Carrie Corey, a contractor accidentally cut an underground fiber optic line, leaving callers in Fort Stockton, Alpine, Fort Davis, and other places a persistent busy signal. Calls were forwarded to a neighboring county via an emergency backup plan, and the information was then relayed back. Service was restored Monday night.
