Widening of Hwy 11 to improve safety conditions

By Scott Harvey

Hopkins County – Construction was expected to begin this week to widen State Highway 11 east of FM 269 to Winnsboro. R.K. Hall Construction Inc. was the low bidder on the project at just over $4.6 million.

According to Brad Martin, area engineer with TxDOT's Paris District, crews will reconstruct the road to provide an improved pavement structure with a full width of 44 feet. The roadway section will include two 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot wide shoulders on both sides of the highway.

The project also includes a 14-foot turn lane in the Winnsboro area, as well as improvements to drainage structures and driveways.

The work is planned to be done in three phases and should take 14 months to complete.
