Wildfires impacting Texans for miles

By Scott Harvey

Hunt County – Winds have brought the scent of fires that are currently burning in southern portions of Texas to the northeast corner of the state. However, there was nothing on fire in the region at last report.

Local emergency crews are reporting that they've been inundated with calls from citizens who fear something is on fire due to the smoke smell and the haze. You're asked to only report a suspected fire to officials if you see flames.

"At this time there are no active wild land fires in Hunt County or Commerce," said Commerce Fire Chief Brian McNevin. "Everything is secure. It's just an inconvenience that we're glad to put up with until all these fires get put out."

The National Weather Service earlier today issued a warning that commuters traveling across Eastern and North Texas should slow down and use extra caution when encountering low visibilities from smoke.
