Williams Robbery Case Starts Today

A Grayson County man is facing multiple charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault in connection with a 2008 armed holdup of a Hunt County game room.

Opening arguments and the start of testimony are scheduled in the 196th District Court today for Darius Demont Williams of Van Alstyne, who is being tried on three counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated assault against a public servant, and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Williams is facing a maximum sentence of up to life in prison on four of the counts. Jury selection was conducted Monday. Three additional indictments of aggravated robbery which had been filed against Williams were dismissed Monday. Williams has pleaded not guilty. Williams’ alleged co-actor, Guadalupe Ramirez III, was convicted by a jury last fall and was sentenced to prison. Williams and Ramirez allegedly acted alongside Vincent Thomas of Greenville on the night of February 20, 2010 during the armed holdup of the Bonnie Lou’s game room on State Highway 276.
