Williams takes second Defensive Player of Week recognition

Senior forward Darrell Williams picked up his second straight Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week Award Monday as announced by the league office.
 
Williams totally dominated both the boards this week as the Lions defeated Dallas Baptist and Southern Arkansas. He averaged 17.5 rebounds a game including 20 rebounds against DBU and 15 vs. SAU.  He is 20-rebound performance against the Patriots is the seventh highest individual rebounding performance by a player in the NCAA this season and the highest by a LSC play to this point of the 2014 season.
 
Williams averaged a double-double on the week averaging 15.5 points. The senior was a force defensively protecting the rim and helping hold the opposition to 35-percent shooting. Williams also provided three blocks and three steal.
 
Williams has collected four 15-plus rebound games on the season the highest mark of any player in a single-season for the Lions.  He currently ranks third in double-doubles with six, two behind the NCAA leader, and leads the lead in double-doubles.  In the NCAA, He ranked third in total rebounds (111), fourth in rebounds per game (12.3) and fifth in defensive rebounds per game (8.7).  He continues to be the only LSC player averaging a double-double and is the lone player in the league averaging double-digit rebounds per game (12.3).
 
All told, he has collected three LSC weekly awards in four weeks after picking up offensive player of the week honors following the first week of the season.
