Wills Point church fire ruled suspicious

By Scott Harvey

Wills Point – An investigation into the seventh East Texas church fire so far this year shows it had been broken into shortly before the sanctuary was destroyed Thursday morning.

The ATF has ruled the blaze at the Russell Memorial Church in Wills Point suspicious.

Investigators are sifting through the debris and don't yet know if accelerants were used in the fire. It could take 2-3 days to positively determine if the fire was a result of arson.

The previous six fires in the region this year have been linked to arson.
