Women win, men lose

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – It's Home Court advantage throughout the Lone Star Conference for the A&M-Commerce women's basketball team. The Lions thumped Tarleton State last night, 97-77. LSC Newcomer of the Year Britney Jordan tied a school record with 43 points in the victory. The sophomore has also been named with All-LSC North first team, along with senior guard Kanani Marshall, who added 16 points in last night's first round victory. It is the first time in school history two Lions have been selected for first-team honors. Marshall was also named LSC North Player of the Year.

5th year head coach Denny Downing was also named Coach of the Year after the best season ever for the women's team.

With the win, the Lions will host the remainder of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. They will face Angelo State Friday at the A&M-Commerce Field House at 8pm. The other LSC semi-final game will feature West Texas A&M battling Central Oklahoma at 6pm.

The men's team lost a heartbreaking contest against West Texas A&M last night, losing with less than a second left in the game as West Texas made a lay up to end the contest 82-80.
