Work continues at water park site

It may be a little too chilly for swimming right now, but work continues on the Splash Kingdom water park which is scheduled to open in Greenville next summer .

Splash Kingdom President and CEO Johnny Blevins said most of the effort so far has been installing items under the surface of the park site along the Interstate 30 south frontage road.

“The surveyors and dirt contractors are finalizing their points,” Blevins said. “The concrete team will be installing pool forms this week to allow the pool plumbers to begin installing the large pool pipe. There will be quite a bit of underground work going on for the next month or so before we see vertical improvements.”

Splash Kingdom is expected to be the anchor tenant for the Greenville Towne Center multi-purpose development.

When Splash Kingdom in Greenville does open, attractions at the park are to include a wave pool, lazy river and several water slides.

A name for the park has not yet been announced, but when ground was broken on the site in February Director of Sales and Marketing Mickey Lewis said the park would be aviation-themed.

The back of the wave pool will be a hangar and part of the lazy river will go though a hangar.

The main entrance will be patterned after an airport runway, with lights pointing the way, while the children’s area will allow visitors to climb up into an airport control tower and slide down the wing of an airplane or the cargo area of a helicopter.

Blevins has said miniature airplanes will be featured throughout the park, at least some of which will be visible from the Interstate 30 frontage road.

The Greenville park will be the fourth Splash Kingdom to open, alongside the parks in Canton and Hudson Oaks, and in Shreveport, La.

The Canton-based company also recently purchased the “Splash Amarillo” park and at last report was in negotiations to open a park in Brazoria.
