Working together despite ongoing lawsuit

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – The City of Greenville and L-3 are cooperating on at least some projects, even as they remain locked in a legal dispute over the status of Major's Field Municipal Airport.

The two sides have been discussing adding new buildings or to renovate and expand existing structures at the airport. Projects already approved this month and last October was valued at more than $10 million.

Under a standing agreement, L-3 constructs or renovates a building at the airport, then turns it over to the Greenville Industrial Development Corporation, who donates it to the city. The defense contractor benefits from not having to pay taxes on the building, while the city acquires significant improvements at no cost.
