University musicians to perform new Syler composition at Meyerson

The Department of Music at Texas A&M University-Commerce is excited to announce a new commission by composer James Syler. The new composition, a 20-25-minute long work for Wind Ensemble and Chorus titled The Temptation of St. Anthony, will receive its world premiere at the Meyerson Symphony Center on March 25, 2014, conducted by Phillip Clements (Randall Hooper-Director of Chorus).

Heroes (and villians) on display

The organizers of the Dallas Comic-Con hold several events each year.  The latest event was the Sci-Fi Expo this past weekend, Feb. 8th and 9th.  Numerous comic creators and celebrities were on hand to welcome fans.  Never a let down, the fans truly make the events special, dressing as their favorite characters and letting their creative sides run free.

U.S. Navy Band chooses Commerce as tour stop

Each year, the U.S. Navy Band tours throughout specified regions of the country, reaching audiences that do not generally get to see these musical ensembles perform on a regular basis. On February 19th, Commerce, Texas, will be host to the band, one of 22 cities chosen as part of this year's outreach.

Believe it again: Bryan’s art to feature at the MAC

Back in April 2013, KETR shared news about a collaborative performance art piece that showcased the talents of artist Paul Bryan and composer Chris Ramos, called Believe It Anyway!

This weekend, a film screening at The McKinney Avenue Contemporary marks Bryan’s first major solo exhibition in Dallas. The event is scheduled for Saturday, January 11th at 8:15 p.m. A reception is set for 6 p.m.

Ray Price entering hospice care in Mt. Pleasant

Country music star Ray Price is entering hospice care at his home in Mount Pleasant. Price had been receiving treatment for cancer at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler and was discharged today.

In a statement, Janie Price said her husband of 45 years had decided "to leave the hospital and return home to spend his final days on his beloved ranch surrounded by the comfort of his home, family and friends."

Price, 87, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2011. The cancer has recently spread to his liver, intestines and lungs, according to a hospital statement.
