William Stewart of Ben Franklin lost his life in this one vehicle accident in Delta County.

While traveling back from Cooper, a pickup driven by William Stewart drifted off to the side of Farm-to-Market 1533 early Thursday morning. It is believed he was returning to his home in Ben Franklin.

The USDA-NRCS hosted a Delta County Conservation Tour at the Ben Franklin Community Center on Thursday, March 17. Due to a thunderstorm the scheduled prescribed burn was postpone to the following Thursday afternoon. Grazing Lands Specialist for the USDA-NRCS Matt Machacek spoke for the crowd over 30 citizens including residents, volunteer fire fighters and Delta County Extension Agent Alford Echols.

Among the red paint-brush flowers and tall grasses lay a few, almost forgotten, headstones at Simmons Cemetery. A group of volunteers gathered last Tuesday out in a hidden corner of Ben Franklin to tend to those buried in the cemetery.

At approximately 3:29 a.m. Wednesday morning a caller at FM 3220 in Ben Franklin reported a mobile home fire with occupants still in the location.
