Emily Porter, chairman of the Bonham Tourism Committee, says the annual Farming Heritage Day takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sam Rayburn House on Highway 56 in Bonham.  Emily also discusses the long-standing Bonham Trade Days, which takes place the weekend after the first Monday each month.  The next Bonham Trades Days will be Oct. 4-7.

Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd says construction is well underway on new construction and a partial renovation at Bonham High School.  That project is valued at $30 million and the restoration of the Fannin County Courthouse in downtown Bonham is estimated at $17 million, giving a major boost to the city's economy, the mayor says.  Also, a new industry, Renlita Doors, has recently started operations.

Emily Porter, the president of the Bonham Economic Development Corporation, says representatives of the city recently attended the Sunbelt Builders conference in Dallas to promote the building of affordable housing in the city.  Emily says Bonham, like many other small cities, is in need of more housing for middle-income people.

City of Bonham

Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd relates details of the Bonham Vision Plan, being developed in conjunction with the Texoma Council of Governments.  It's a 20-year plan for the city.  The mayor says the city has attracted a company, Northlake Industries, which he says has to do with circuit boards and will employ 25-40 people. That follows on the heels of the announcement that Ton Gren International will open a plant in Bonham.

Malinda Allison

Malinda Allison says the annual Bonham Quilt Hop is Friday and Saturday, and also has locations in nearby Honey Grove.  The Quilt Hop is a show of new and old examples of the art of quilting.  One of the locations in Honey Grove is at the 134-year-old St. Mark's Church.   Also, visitors will enjoy the Fannin County Barn Quilt Trail, where painted representations of quilts are seen on homes and barns.

The president of the Bonham Economic Development Corporation and the Bonham Tourism Committee, Emily Porter, says, in addition to the restoration of the Fannin County Courthouse to its original 19th Century appearance, a number of other buildings are being rehabilitated in downtown Bonham.  Also, Emily previews the annual "Quilt Hop" in Bonham and Honey Grove, Friday-Saturday, July 28-29.

City of Bonham

Emily Porter, president of the Bonham Economic Development Corporation, says a sheet-metal manufacturer, Tong Ren International, a Chinese company, is moving its plan in Melissa to Bonham.  And she reports that a new Dairy Queen franchise is being built in Bonham and will probably be open by the end of the summer.

Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd reflects on news that Bonham is no. 217 on the list of the top 250 towns in Texas to buy a home, according to analysis provided by LendEDU.  Caddo Mills is no. 156, Greenville is no. 221 and Leonard is no. 249.  The study reviewed data on 1,000 Texas towns and based the rankings on three criteria: the median income to home value ratio; a five-year population forecast; and a five-year income forecast.

Emily Porter, the president of the Bonham Economic Development Corporation and the Bonham Tourism Committee, says Bonham manufacturer Renlita Doors will move into a larger building on Albert Broadfoot Street and will expand its operations.  Renlita builds innovative doors that raise into the ceiling for companies such as Holiday Inn Express.

Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd discusses new housing developments that have been approved in Bonham and Fannin County.  The mayor says they're a sign of economic and population growth.  Also, Bonham and the county expect an influx of workers during the construction of the Lower Bois d' Arc Creek Reservoir and Lake Ralph Hall projects, which are expected to begin within months.

Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd discusses the impending  retirement of City Manager Bill Shipp, also the former Commerce city manager.  Also, the mayor discusses a $150,000 grant from the Texas Department of Transportation for the city of Bonham's Jones Field airport.

Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd says the North Texas Water Authority will begin construction of the Lower Bois D'Arc Creek Reservoir late this year or in early 2016.  The lake will be 16 miles long and eight miles wide, from  near Honey Grove to Lake Bonham.  The lake has been in the development stage for about 30 years, the mayor says.  Also, construction of Ralph Hall Lake near Ladonia is expected to begin in about a year, according to Mayor Floyd.
