Officials in Lamar County say multiple wildfires have led them to extend the county’s burn ban for another month. On Tuesday the County Commissioner’s Court extended the ban until January 10.

The Commissioner's Court also doubled the possible penalty. Anyone caught burning brush or leaves could face a $1000 fine.

Delta County Commissioners Court has unanimously voted to extend the burn ban for outdoor burning in all unincorporated areas of the County another 90 days on Monday, Dec. 4. Judge Jason Murray had enacted an emergency burn ban effective Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 at 3 p.m.

Delta County Judge Jason Murray enacted an emergency burn ban effective Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 at 3 p.m.  Local volunteer fire departments have been responding to several grass fires combined with dry conditions created the need for the ban.

At noon on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017 the burn ban for Delta County was allowed to expire due to the recent rains.

On Thursday morning, Feb. 2, 2017 Delta County Judge Jason Murray declared an emergency burn ban due to current fire danger conditions. It will take effect at noon today.

Delta County joins several other counties in allowing the emergency burn ban to expire. As of Thursday, Sept. 17 citizens may burn inside the county limits. Citizens should contact the Delta County Sheriff’s Office dispatch at (903) 395-2146 prior to conducting any outdoor burning.

Lamar, Delta, Hopkins and Rains are no longer under a burn ban.
