Celeste police chief commits suicide

Celeste Chief of Police Roger Eugene Mueller III was brought to Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville for medical attention before he was pronounced dead.

Celeste Chief of Police Roger Eugene Mueller III has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mueller was awaiting trial on two counts of indecency with a child.

Hunt County District Attorney Noble D. Walker Jr. said he was notified of Mueller’s death Monday night.

“I got a call at around 8 p.m. that he had commited suicide,” Walker said.

Celeste Police chief dies of gunshot wound

While facing charges of sexual assault, Celeste Police Chief Roger Eugene Mueller III has died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

According to the Greenville Herald-Banner, police got a call of a gunshot victim at Mueller's home at around 7:45 p.m. Monday night. He was transported to Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville, where he died shortly after.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks tells the Herald-Banner that Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation.
