Cooper Review editor Cindy Roller reports beer and wine have gone on sale in Delta County, following the election last May.  A special guest on this edition of the Blacklands Cafe, Delta County Judge Jason Murray, says the beer-and-wine sales will help retailers, but it remains to be seen if they will boost the tax revenue for the county.  Other topics are the new cotton gin in Delta County and a new fire truck for the East Delta Volunteer Fire Department.

Cindy Roller, the editor of the Cooper Review, says the permitting process is underway for retail stores wanting to sell beer and wine in Delta County, after voters approved such sales in May.  And Delta Hope House, the county's food pantry, is raising money to support its growing services.  The organization served about 1,800 families in Delta County last year.

Cooper Review editor Cindy Roller says construction of a new cotton gin will begin soon. PPF Gin and Warehouse will located on 30 acres near the intersection of Highways 24 and 19, and employ up to 20 people when it opens in late summer.  The owner is Pat Pilgrim, son of Pilgrim's Pride chicken magnate Bo Pilgrim.

Cooper Review editor Cindy Roller says water levels at Cooper Lake have risen dramatically recently, and the boat docks are now open and accessible.  Cindy says the lake is still about six feet low, but that's a big improvement from 12 feet low at one point.  And Cindy reports that a new cotton gin will be built at Lake Creek in Delta County.

Cooper Review editor says voter interest is high in the election on the proposal to allow off-premise sale of beer and wine in Delta County Saturday, May 9.  And Cindy reports the construction on State Hwy. 24 seems to be causing more traffic accidents in recent days.

Five years and still a very popular annual event – the Sulphur Springs Worldwide Photo Walk, which will be held from 4-6 p.m. or the “golden hours” on Saturday evening, Oct. 11 at the newly renovated City Hall in Sulphur Springs.

            Commemorating the event’s fifth year, a tour given by City Manager Marc Maxwell will be the highlight and a prime location with 100 years worth historical aspects for participating shutterbugs. An added bonus with many subjects will be the Hopkins County Fall Festival Battle of the Bands being held at Muddy Jake’s Sports Grille and Pub.
