During Monday night’s meeting of the Cooper Independent School District’s Board of Trustees, the four person quorum accepted the 2014-15 budget following an open forum hearing.

This included only minor adjustments from the previous year’s budget.

Cooper High School students will see a new face in the hallways beginning in the fall as Keith Cook will be taking the helm as the new principal for the first time. 

Cooper Independent School District Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger said this area of leadership is of the utmost importance and they have worked to find the very best fit for their campus.

Resuming their positions on the Cooper Independent School District Board of Trustees will be Thomas Darden and Blake Randle for full three-year terms along with an unexpired term for Anita Moody. Challenging for a place was Laura Gillean receiving a total of 47 votes. Darden received 165, Randle had 169 and Moody with 168 with the majority of the votes being cast absentee. The votes were canvassed on Monday, May 19.

It seems there has been a war waged against hunger at Cooper Junior High School, and the victors are Delta Hope House recipients. Cooper Junior High Student Council sponsored this class “penny war” jar competition for the purpose of raising $318 for the Delta Hope House.

The Delta Hope House would also like to thank all the classes that participated in this war on hunger, also the sponsors Deena White, Shelly Colley and the Junior High Student Council which staged this event.

The Cooper Independent School District Board of Trustees met for a regular meeting last Monday night following a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Solar Energy Project, the largest of its kind in Northeast Texas.

The first item of business was the approval of the consent agenda which included the revised Delta County Appraisal District budget.

CISD Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger noted there were 794 students currently enrolled.

During the Principals’ Reports, each principal reported on the progress of District Goal of Collaboration.

Some area school districts have come up short in filing safety plans with the state.

COOPER - The district was placed under the modified lockdown Thursday and remained under the lockdown as late as 2:30 p.m.

COOPER - Moody fills the vacancy left by Trustee Jack Vaughn, who recently resigned with seven months of his term remaining. On Thursday, board member Jack Chambliss  also announced he was stepping down.
