The Texas Department of Transportation announced the repairs necessary for State Highway 19 will begin in September. This will be for the portion that stretches from north of Sulphur Springs to the Delta County line near the Sulphur River bridge.
Over a foot of rain soaked areas of East Texas over the weekend starting Friday including Hunt, Hopkins and Delta Counties. Flash flooding created havoc on drivers as many roads were closed. Emergency personnel responded to several high water rescues. Drivers are reminded of the slogan, “Turn around, don’t drown.”

Local Hunt, Hopkins and Delta County and other law enforcement went into action Wednesday evening at approximately 6 p.m. in pursuit of a vehicle moving at a high velocity. It was reportedly the driver of a Toyota Prius.
Delta County will be receiving $350,000 from Texas Department of Transportation for the ice storm damage experienced last December. Delta County Judge Herb Brookshire said they have been working to get this grant for quite some time, gathering photos and information from the Commissioners.
