Pud Kearns with Housewarmers of Greenville says Hunt County Shared Ministries, or FISH, needs volunteers to help assemble Thanksgiving food baskets for about 700 families. The baskets will be assembled at the Greenville Electric Utilities Services (GEUS) building on Wesley Street Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights of this week.

Instead of emptying ice buckets, the citizens of Hunt County are challenged to fill Home Depot work buckets with donations to Hunt County Shared Ministries, or FISH, which provides food for people in need, and whose shelves have become nearly empty in recent weeks.

Pud Kearns with Housewarmers of Greenville says the kickoff event is at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, August 21 at Landon Winery in Greenville, and the "Bras for the Cause" auction for the Hunt Memorial Hospital District breast-cancer facility is Thursday, October 9. The theme this year is "Brazinga!"
Pud Kearns with Housewarmers of Greenville recently returned from a visit to a friend in Australia. She happened to arrive on ANZAC Day, celebrating the veterans of Australia and New Zealand. Pud says we could take lessons from the Aussies on how to throw a parade and honor vets. And the Greenville Farmers Market is back, Saturday mornings from 9 a.m.
Pud Kearns of Housewarmers of Greenville is also the driving force behind "Shattered Dreams," a super-realistic program at Greenville High School February 18-20 that will make the risk of driving while intoxicated apparent to GHS students. The event includes a simulated crash at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 18; a memorial service for "victims" at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 19; and a trial of the driver accused of drunken driving at 7 p.m.
Pud Kearns of Housewarmers previews numerous upcoming events in Greenville, including the observance of Martin Luther King Junior's birthday this Saturday and Sunday; a master gardener's program on Thursday of this week; a pie-making class on Thursday, January 23; and upcoming Greenville Entertainment Series and Dallas Symphony Orchestra programs in the Municipal Auditorium. With so many things to do, Pud says Greenville and Hunt County are definitely not "the hinterlands."
