Attendees at this year’s Hunt County African-American Leadership Conference Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Awards Ceremony heard a keynote speaker who wasn’t just a witness to history – he was an active participant in history.

January 19th marks the 24th year of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Ceremony presented by the Hopkins County African American Leadership Conference.

Dr. Dan Jones, CEO of Texas A&M University-Commerce, presides as the master of ceremonies over the event, which takes place inside the Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church on Fuller Street in Sulphur Springs at 7:00 p.m., and will honor a number of local residents with awards ranging from, “Spirit of Loyalty,” to, “MLK Man and Woman of the Year.”

On Sunday afternoon, January 19th, the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Commerce will once again host the 2014 The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Awards Celebration, promoting leadership by example.

The Hunt County African American Leadership Conference event is a vehicle through which to underscore individual commitments to tenets generally associated with the legacy of Dr. King, and to recognize those individuals publicly.
