Hunt County Fair

Carol Taylor, chairman of the Hunt County Historical Commission, says horse racing was once a big-time attraction at the original Hunt County Fair in Greenville, with top horses coming to the fair racetrack from all over the country.

Hunt County Master Gardener Stephanie Suesan Smith tells us that the Master Gardeners will accept entries in the annual horticulture contest at the Hunt County Fair from 4-6 p.m.

The gates to the annual Hunt County Fair will be swinging open earlier this year.

After years of being held during the month of June, the 2014 Hunt County Fair and Livestock Show, presented by Innovation First, kicks off April 25 and continues through May 4.

With the theme of “Building New Traditions For a Brilliant Future”, tickets will be $8 for adults and $4 for kids. All week passes are $30 for adults and $20 for kids.

The carnival rides are being provided by Happy World and there will be armband specials each night of the Fair.

Hunt County Agrilife Extension agent Mary Sue Cole says the Hunt County Fair will start this year on April 25 and run through May 3.  In recent years, the fair has opened in June, after opening in August for many years. Mary Sue says creative arts entries are due April 14.
