Friday marks an exciting cap to what has been a memorable 2013 season for the A&M-Commerce football team as the Lions will be playing in their first bowl game since the 1958 Tangerine Bowl. Texas A&M University-Commerce closes out the 2013 regular-season schedule against a resurgent Eastern New Mexico University team on Sat., Nov. 16 at Memorial Stadium. Opening kick against the Greyhounds is set for 2 p.m. Saturday’s game marks the 2013 Lions’ Senior Day.

Eastern New Mexico has emerged as the surprise team in the Lone Star Conference, knocking off top-15-ranked opponents in consecutive weekends.

Jorgensen and the Locker Room crew also discussed the new, and Coach Carthel's meteoric rise to the top of the poll in the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year fan vote. Cooper, Taylor and Jordan ended the show with a brief chat on the NBA season.

A&M-Commerce announced the hiring of Colby Carthel as new head football coach on Tuesday. Carthel had spent the last seven seasons as the defensive coordinator at West Texas A&M, where his father, Don Carthel, is head football coach.

At a campus press conference Tuesday morning, Colby Carthel emphasized recruiting as a central priority in reviving the fortunes of the A&M-Commerce football team, which finished with 1-9 records in 2012 and 2011.

Charles S. “Charlie” Chitwood  of Jefferson, Texas was named KETR’s new play-by-play voice for  Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions football on Friday and will be on the air Sept. 1 when the Lions open their 2012 season at home against Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
