It has been a long process but the family of the late Enrique Mendoza, 19, of Cooper are finally finding a bit of closure on their loss. On June 5, 2016 the teen was killed as a result of a head-on collision that occurred on State Highway 19, about six miles north of Sulphur Springs.

A grieving family hopefully got a bit of closure last week following the trial and the sentencing of Vincent Craig Wilcox of Sulphur Springs, the driver of the dump truck that struck and killed O.G. and Vivian Brewer of Cooper last August on State Highway 19 in Delta County. After a brief deliberation the Delta County jury found Wilcox guilty of Intoxication Manslaughter, agreeing with the State that a deadly weapon was used, sentencing him to two consecutive 20 year sentences.

Woman given prison sentence in manslaughter case

A Commerce woman was sentenced to prison Tuesday, after earlier pleading guilty to a charge of manslaughter in connection with the November 2012 stabbing death of a Greenville man.

Myeisha Simone Garcia was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division, following the sentencing hearing in the 354th District Court, according to Hunt County District Attorney Noble D. Walker Jr.
