Two Royse City Independent School District campuses will be closed on Friday after school officials learned that a nurse with children in Royse City schools treated an Ebola patient in Dallas, according to a Royse City Herald-Banner report.

School superintendent Kevin Worthy told the Herald-Banner that Ruth Cherry Intermediate School and Davis Elementary School will be closed on Oct. 17 for “deep cleaning.”

Opponents of a proposed toll road between Greenville and far northeastern Dallas County plan to present their objections to elected officials throughout the area on Tuesday.

The activist group Texans United for Reform and Freedom (TURF) plans to hold a press conference at 9:30 a.m. on Tue. Oct. 14 in front of the Hunt County Auxiliary Courtroom at 2700 Johnson St. in Greenville. TURF also plans to make its case during the Hunt County Commissioners Court meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. at that same location.

Dozens of animals were seized Wednesday from a residence near Royse City, after they were allegedly discovered living in crates inside the home.

“The living conditions were, obviously, terrible,” said Hunt County Constable Precinct 1 Terry Jones, who joined representatives with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals of Texas, deputies with the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office and Investigator Mike Pierce with the Hunt County Attorney’s Office in the action.

UPDATE, Jan. 31,  4:15 p.m. 

Officials have identified Kara Elizabeth Croop, 33, as the victim in the Jan. 31. Police said that her husband, Scott Croop, 39, shot her in the street outside of their home on the 400 block of Cookston Lane before shooting himself. Scott Croop was pronounced dead on the scene, while Kara Croop was severely wounded and transported to a Dallas hospital, officials said.
