Davault Earns Second Co-Offensive Player of Week Honor

Amy Davault, Junior outside hitter for the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions, earned her second Co-Offensive Player of Week of the season this week. The announcement was made by the Lone Star Conference office Tuesday. It is the second time in the last three weeks that she has earned the honor.

Davault shares the award this week with Halie Harton of West Texas A&M University.

Lions seek fifth win Saturday against McMurry

After a two-game road swing, Texas A&M University-Commerce returns to Memorial Stadium this Saturday. The Lions host McMurry University at 6 p.m. The Lions and War Hawks renew an old-school Lone Star Conference rivalry. The two schools will meet for the first time since 1971.

Lions win big at Kingsville

A&M-Commerce roared out to a commanding 41-7 lead early in the second half behind big plays on all facets of the game, notching its first Lone Star Conference victory of the season with a 41-28 win at rival A&M-Kingsville. The Lions retain the Chennault Cup with their second-straight victory over the Javelinas, notching their first road victory in the state of Texas since 2006.

Sulphur Springs thumps Mount Pleasant, 63-28

After an early-season stumble, Sulphur Springs has shifted into high gear just in time for the District 14-4A schedule. The Wildcats rolled over Mount Pleasant 63-28 at Gerald Prim Stadium in Sulphur Springs on Oct. 11 in the district opener for both teams.

“Offensively, they had all they could handle with (running back) Willy (Ivery),” Sulphur Springs coach Greg Owens said. “Willy and (quarterback) Larry (Pryor) did a fantastic job. I thought we controlled the front with the O-line, so they did a super job with all that,” Owens said.

The Big Friday Night Scoreboard Program- Week 6

After a string of 4 losses, the Commerce Tigers tried to turn their luck around versus the visiting Raiders of Sunnyvale on Friday night, playing without their injured quarterback Sam Wells.

The scoring in the first half of the game began with Sunnyvale posting a field goal early in the first quarter to take a 0-3 lead, but The Tigers answered with a touchdown in the 2nd to go on top 7 to 3. The momentum switched to Sunnyvale's favor for the rest of the half, however,  capitalizing on multiple Tiger fumbles with 2 more touchdowns. At halftime, it was Commerce- 7, Sunnyvale- 24.

In a game that was delayed for hours by lightning strikes, the Lions picked up a non-conference victory at Durant, Okla.

A&M-Commerce fought off a slow start, a two-hour weather delay and a late surge by Southeastern Oklahoma, but in the end, the Lions escaped Paul Laird Field with a spirited 31-29 victory over the Savage Storm. With the victory, A&M-Commerce notches its first road victory in three seasons, the first since a 2010 victory at Central Oklahoma and snapping an 11-game skid.
