Postgame notebook: Midwestern's misty escape

The 23rd-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs escaped with a 30-24 win over Texas A&M University-Commerce at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 28.

That’s right, escaped. An A&M-Commerce onside kick attempt in the waning minutes tumbled into the hands of a Midwestern defender, ensuring victory for the visitors. Only then was the outcome decided. Considering how the Lions had played in the fourth quarter, it’s a safe bet the Mustangs were more than a little relieved.

Lions' late rally falls short, 30-24

Trailing by 17 points heading into the fourth quarter, A&M-Commerce showed its resiliency against 23rd-ranked Midwestern State, rallying back to pull to within six points in the waning minutes. But the Lions were unable to complete the comeback, falling 30-24 to the Mustangs on a wet and misty night at Memorial Stadium.

A&M-Commerce falls to 2-2 on the season and 1-2 in Lone Star Conference play after playing its third ranked opponent in as many weeks. Midwestern State improves to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in LSC action.

For third week, Lions face ranked opponent

For the third week in a row, the A&M-Commerce football team goes into a game as underdogs to a nationally ranked opponent. This time, it’s no. 23 Midwestern State. The Lions (2-1, 0-1 in the Lone Star Conference) kick off against the Mustangs (1-1, 0-1 LSC) at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

The Big Friday Night Scoreboard Program- Week 4

With the Commerce Tigers on a Bye this week, KETR brought a special Game Of The Week featuring Van Alstyne at Caddo Mills.

The scoring was back and forth for much of the match, with only a touchdown separating the teams at halftime, but in the second half, it was visiting Van Alstyne who exerted their offensive muscle to put more points on the board.

The final score: Caddo Mills- 27, Van Alstyne- 35.

Due to the Commerce Tigers having this week off, 88.9 KETR is broadcasting the Caddo Mills game against Van Alstyne this week.

The Caddo Mills Fighting Foxes enter district play with a 1-3 record, losing their first three games at Krum (28-25), against Edgewood (29-19), and at Lone Oak (33-28) before winning against Community (20-14) last week. They have scored 92 points and allowed 104.

MSU returning to Commerce sets up 'Classic'

Midwestern State is returning to Commerce for the first time since 2005, and the game is also the first occurrence of the Harvey Martin Classic in Commerce in its six-year history. The guys discuss this, and the upcoming challenge the Texas Rangers face in getting into the playoffs.
