Lions women hoopsters ready for encore roar

Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team heads into the 2013-14 season looking to build on the turnaround that began with last season's 11 wins and a win over Abilene Christian in the Lone Star Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The Lions open the season in Austin vs. Central Oklahoma University and at St. Edward's University.

Lions fail to convert chances in 3-1 loss to West Texas

Texas A&M University-Commerce out shot and held more possession than West Texas A&M but were unable to capitalize on their numerous chances to put the game out of reach. The Lions hit the post twice and had opportunities inside the penalty area of West Texas but could not find the back of the net a second or third time.

"We just did not execute, I say that every time. Sometimes things happen", Neil Piper said after the loss.

Texas A&M University-Commerce rallied back from an early 2-0 deficit to force a fifth and deciding set, but a late run by Midwestern State University thwarted the Lion comeback attack as A&M-Commerce fell 17-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 9-15 at the Field House.

A&M-Commerce has won two in a row after not allowing a goal in either game last week. The shutouts came against Ouachita Baptist, 1-0, and Texas Woman's, 2-0. The Lion defense is on a 203-minute shutout streak, with the win over OBU coming in double over time.

Lions fight off Storm for road win in five sets

Texas A&M University-Commerce was pushed to a fifth set for the second time in three matches by Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and the Lions were up to the task again winning three sets to two.

The Lions came out slow and dropped set one before winning sets two and three. The Savage Storm won the fourth set 25-17. In the fifth and final set the Lions came out and took a 5-1 early lead and never looked back, winning the set 15-10.
