In Commerce, people in the university community knew Aubree Butts and Devin Oliver as friends and classmates. KETR listeners across Northeast Texas knew the two young women as important parts of the backcourt of the Lions basketball team.

UPDATE, 8:40 a.m.- ​The two young women killed in the accident have been identified as Aubree Butts and Devin Oliver. The two young women who survived the wreck are La'Tisha Hearne and Zenobia Winbush. A candelight vigil will be held on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce at Rachel's Garden starting at 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night.  University flags are flying at half staff Wednesday as well in honor of the women.

Currin named VP of Business and Administration

Alicia Currin has been named vice president of business and administration at Texas A&M University-Commerce.  Currin’s prior role was chief of staff to the chief executive officer and director of planning and governmental relations. She will serve in an interim capacity until formal approval by the Board of Regents at their Sept. 3 meeting.

Texas A&M University-Commerce recently appointed Dina M. Sosa to the position of Interim Dean of Enrollment, Management and Retention. Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp approved the request, and A&M-Commerce’s recommendation of Sosa for Dean will be submitted for approval at the July Board of Regents meeting.

The Commerce fire department was dispatched to the Kappa Delta sorority house on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce at 7:45 on Friday night to extinguish a fire.

According to sources, the blaze was limited to a single first-floor room which has been unoccupied this semester.

All of the students evacuated the building without incident. The cause of the blaze and the extent of the damage is not yet known, though occupants are being allowed to return to their rooms.

The director of development for the Texas A&M University-Commerce College of Business and Entrepreneurship, Wyman Williams, discusses two major upcoming events, a reception for Commerce-area A&M-C/ET alumni from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 in the Alumni Center. And, kicking off the 125th anniversary year of the University, a "reveal" of a new heritage logo and apparel featuring a combined A&M-C/ET logo takes place from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in the University Amphitheatre.

Texas' 4th congressional district Rep. Ralph Hall joined Texas A&M University-Commerce president Dr. Dan Jones and KETR General Manager Jerrod Knight for the April 2014 installment of KETR's local monthly talk show, The President's Perspective.

Unique to this broadcast was the opportunity to visit with the congressman at NPR's headquarters in Washington, D.C. - a necessary element thanks to Hall's tight schedule. In fact, the program was short by five minutes as a quick vote on the House floor was announced, and staffers whisked him away.
